Brian Klingbeil, EMEA MD of Savvis talked at the Cloud Computing World Forum about the reality of the cloud. He rammed home the point that the cloud is somewhere, it has a physical location and computing hardware. True, even if it does make the cloud sound less fun.
He sees a cloud’s abilities as needing to include user control, shared tenancy and flexible billing. I would err more towards the definition of a cloud as an ability to scale compute resources without needing to physically provision new hardware, but then no one seems to be able to agree on a precise definition for cloud computing.
